Visualising Quantum Mechanics

Quantum mechanics, like all of physics, aims to predict what happens, albeit in a probabilistic manner. But what does it actually mean? What is happening under the surface? Moving through a visual essay in your browser, you will examine this gap during the workshop. Vivek Vaidya will guide you through the hidden aspects of the double-slit experiment, decoherence, Bohm’s pilot wave, and the many-worlds interpretation. Between each topic, you play: aim a wavefunction at a target you cannot strike directly, read a barrier from a quantum-potential landscape, or herd thirty-two worlds that repel one another. The games use the same solvers as the essay figures, so the intuitions you develop reflect the physics.
