The Method
Holotropic Breathwork is a highly experiential practice recommended for those interested in personal and spiritual growth through deep inner exploration. Stan Grof’s basic concept is that the wisdom of our “inner healer” guides the process, bringing into consciousness what is most healing for us at any given moment.
The process combines accelerated breathing with evocative music, helping to amplify the experience and support the release of stuck or unconscious material.
Sessions are done in pairs. During each breathwork session, participants lie on a mat with their eyes closed, using the power of their own breath and evocative music to enter an expanded, non-ordinary state of consciousness.
Within this work, such states are understood to support innate inner wisdom, bringing healing, release and/or insight.
We honour the three main guidelines of working with holotropic states:
- Preparation
- The experience itself
- Integration of the experience
Once the breathwork session is complete, the breather is invited to draw a mandala of their experience. No drawing skills are required.
Additional elements of the process may include focused energy release when the body needs support in releasing and healing.
Sessions are followed by a sharing circle, where participants may share their experience, as well as integration practices to support the material that emerged during the breathwork session.
Workshop Format
This is a double workshop , consisting of four Holotropic Breathwork sessions in total. Each participant will take part in two sessions as a breather and two sessions as a sitter, holding space for another participant.
The workshop includes Holotropic Breathwork sessions with evocative music, bodywork, mandala drawing, group sharing, and a sequence of integration practices on the final morning.

A Tool for Supporting Psychedelic Experiences
This workshop offers the opportunity to practise the role of the sitter , in line with the requirements of Holotropic Breathwork training and some other psychedelic-assisted therapy trainings.
Following the restrictions placed on psychedelic research in the 1970s, Stan Grof and his then-wife, Christina Grof, developed Holotropic Breathwork as a way of inviting non-ordinary states of consciousness through deep breathing, evocative music, and careful attention to set and setting.
Please expect approximately ten-hour days on Saturday and Sunday, including two breathwork sessions and a sharing group. Each breathwork session lasts approximately three hours.
